Primary Care Q & A

What is primary care?

Primary care is an approach to medicine that identifies one physician who serves as the first person you contact when you have a health care concern. As a primary care provider for adults, Dr. Sullivan treats the full scope of health problems you encounter, whether you need urgent care for an illness, suffer a minor injury, or need long-term management for a chronic disease.

Dr. Sullivan also refers you to a specialist when needed. But he stays on your health care team as your primary care physician, following your treatment and advocating for your well-being.

What services might I receive through primary care?

Dr. Sullivan provides comprehensive services, including:

  • Sick visits (urgent care)
  • Women’s health care
  • Men’s health care
  • Immunizations
  • Onsite lab work
  • Annual physical exams
  • Preventive health care
  • Weight loss management
  • Medication management
  • Chronic disease management

This list doesn’t include all the possible services you can receive through primary care, so don’t hesitate to call if you have questions or need help with a problem not on the list.

How do primary care providers manage chronic diseases?

Chronic diseases like high blood pressure, high cholesterol, Type 2 diabetes, and heart disease develop gradually. As a result, you go through a stage that falls between being healthy and having a full-blown disease.

Primary care providers focus on catching problems early enough to prevent these conditions. For example, lowering your blood sugar or blood pressure when they’re slightly elevated prevents full-blown Type 2 diabetes and hypertension (high blood pressure).

Once a chronic disease develops, it is not curable. Instead, Dr. Sullivan protects your health with long-term chronic disease management.

How do I access primary care?

Dr. Sullivan practices concierge medicine, allowing you to pay a set fee to become a member. Your fee covers a wide range of specific services, and then you pay another set fee for any additional services you might need.

A few of the benefits patients love about concierge medicine include:

  • Direct access to your physician (including his cell phone)
  • Scheduling fast appointments
  • Longer time with the doctor during an appointment
  • Knowing there are no hidden fees
  • Not needing approval from insurance providers for the care they need

If you need a compassionate primary care provider or would like to learn more about concierge care, call Seth Sullivan, MD, or book an appointment online today.
